The Domino Foundation’s Life Skills programme has been working with a number of schools in the Amaoti informal settlement area for the past 13 years to empower learners to make wise life choices. Opening the children’s minds through reading is a powerful way of introducing them to the wonderful wider world. One of the schools, Susan Ngcobo Primary School, has been blessed with a small space which has been converted into a “library” area by Project TEN, an international outreach programme, with whom The Domino Foundation has been working over the past year.
Now that the space and basic shelving has been provided, there is a great need for suitable books to fill the shelves. Donations of fiction and non-fiction books in good condition for Grades R to 7 would be very gratefully received as would be toys suitable for these age groups…. Lego, puzzles, building blocks etc. The space is also in need of a 3m x 3m carpet and floor cushions. Any donations may be left at The Domino Foundation’s offices (37 Mackeurtan Avenue, Durban North).
