Feeding Programme Update – 3rd Quarter

Since mid-year, meetings have been held with the local representative of a Dutch-funded relief and feeding programme which has been operating in the Ethekwini area for the past quarter century. The intention is that The Domino Foundation should take over the programme which feeds into about twenty institutions. The Feeding Programme’s systems are being re-designed to incorporate, receive, store and deliver the new  programme’s monthly food delivery.

A proposal for a new pilot Sandwich Programme has been presented to SA Home Loans and, as a first step, a meeting with a secondary school in Sydenham, not on the government feeding scheme, has been held. It is envisaged that this school will be part of the new scheme.

Regular meetings are being held with a representatives of JAM to look at other successful NPOs with a view to applying their solutions to feeding challenges, so that we can make our programme more sustainable.

The programme now assists 42 churches/organisations on a monthly basis and is able to assist varied families in crisis each month. Cathy Whittle (North Durban Feeding – and Cheryl Dann (South Durban Feeding – will be pleased to let you have more information on all aspects of the Feeding Programme.
