Maris Stella & St Mary’s girls united this weekend to paint and decorate two counselling huts for our Learning for Life team.
Indlela’s Learning for Life Programme is a HIV prevention programme and works into 3 schools in the Amaoti community, namely Amaoti 3 Combined school, Zwakele Primary school and Nhlonipho Primary school. Some of our learners on the programme are orphaned and vulnerable children who come from child led families and broken homes. As part of our programme we have placed a Counselling hut at each school where the children are able to meet with our Youth Workers on a one-on-one basis to deal with any problems and situations that these children have to face everyday. We have Social Work Honours students placed with us for a year and they are able to do more in-depth counselling with the learners and the huts provide a safe and relaxed environment.
The Maris Stella and St Mary’s girl’s happily gave of their time on Saturday morning to help create a warm and comfortable environment for the children to open up. They created a beautiful mural with an assortment of flowers and animals for a calm and friendly atmosphere. Concept Carpets donated carpets for the huts which added those finishing touches.
