Left-brained logic may well have been what opened career paths in the financial, legal and technology spaces for Gareth Basson, both in the UK for a period of 6 years and, since then, back home in KZN for the born-and-raised Pietermaritzburg boy.
Gareth has concentrated his professional efforts over the past 15 years more broadly in the commercial landscape, where he serves as Managing Director of IT solutions company, Bastrio Technology, and of Tech 4 Education, specialists in technology solutions in the South African educational sector.
Gareth was recently elected to the board of The Domino Foundation after admiring the heart and integrity undergirding the NPO’s work for a long time. He has had indirect involvement with Domino through other organisations over a number of years.
A devoted family man, he is passionate about spending time with young people, finding joy in watching his and wife Jess’ two sons playing sport. Gareth finds great fulfilment in encouraging them and other young people to grow into their unique, God-given potential.
Asked what might be his special strength he could bring to Domino’s board, Gareth, with characteristic humility, replied that he doesn’t claim to have all the answers, but added he has a deep concern for people, particularly those of the next generation. He hopes that his technology and strategy experience will support the rest of the board in ways which facilitate Domino’s continued impact in bringing hope to and practical change in underserved communities. His personal strongly-held faith is the bedrock of his professional, family and community-involvement life. “Being invited to join the board is a privilege, and I’m truly honoured to be able to contribute in any way I can.”
