Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the Global Goals or SDG’s), adopted by the United Nations, are an universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
Achieving the SDGs requires the partnership and active participation of governments, private sector, civil society and citizens alike to ensure that we leave a better planet for future generations.
Which Sustainable Development Goals does The Domino Foundation align with?
At a Global level, currently, this manifests itself in the development of the SDG’s and so our programmes align with a number of the ambitious goals. Collectively, our programmes outwork 5 of the 17 SDG’s and Corporate Business Partners, Philanthropists and other Civil Society Stakeholders and Role Players can support and align with these programmes, which ultimately contribute and build towards achieving these goals.
Although the SDG’s largely focus on achievement with national figures and percentages, Domino applies our monitoring and tracking tools to our beneficiary base, as we believe, if we focus on who we can reach, and ensure the proportion of our beneficiary base are succeeding, this will have a #DominoEffect on our local, then national and ultimate global impact and significance.

The South African National Development Plan
The National Development Plan (NDPs) was adopted by South Africa in 2012 and acts as a guiding document or blueprint to tackle the challenges faced by the republic. The ultimate goal is to eliminate poverty and reduce inequality by 2030 by driving progress and addressing challenges in the economy and employment, infrastructure development, Environmental sustainability, Education, training and innovation, health care, social protection, fighting corruption and building safer communities. This plan envisions a South Africa where everyone feels free yet bounded to others; where everyone embraces their full potential, a country where opportunity is determined not by birth, but by ability, education and hard work.
Which NDP goals do The Domino Foundation programmes align with?
Our biblical mandate calls us to be “caretakers and stewards” of creation and so ‘Dominion’, therefore, does not mean to exploit or destroy but rather to exercise care and responsibility for both creation and the created.
At a Global level, currently, this manifests itself in the development of the SDG’s and at a National level, this is expressed in the National Development Plan, and so our programmes align with a number of the ambitious goals. Collectively, our programmes outwork 3 of the 13 NDP’s and Corporates, philanthropists and other civil society role players can support these programmes, which ultimately contribute towards meeting the NDP objectives.
Although the NDP’s largely focus on achievement with national figures and percentages, Domino applies our monitoring and tracking to our beneficiary base and the communities we currently serve, as we believe, if we focus on who we can reach, and ensure the proportion of our beneficiary base are succeeding, this will have a #DominoEffect on our national and global success.
