Wealth management professionals from Carrick Wealth marked their 10th anniversary by standing in support of those who selflessly give each day to uplift communities in need. Carrick’s Durban team spent the day at The Domino Foundation’s offices and Babies’ Home. Divided into groups, they rotated through various activities that not only gave them an insight into the services the Foundation provides, but also the opportunity to participate.

Domino’s Volunteer Co-ordinator, Sizamile Mkhwanazi, guided them through the schedule that saw them rolling up their sleeves to cultivate, nurture, and literally “spread the bread”. Planting veggie gardens, making sandwiches for the Nutrition programme and sorting donations for the Early Childhood Programme was the order of the day. However, it was interacting with the home’s youngest residents that pulled at the heartstrings and were among the most memorable moments.

Jandre Venter, Carrick Wealth’s Regional Manager for KZN, commented: “Our group were so captivated by the babies and toddlers that we totally forgot about our manual labour slot in the veggie garden! Participating in all the activities really gave our team a sense of accomplishment and a deeper understanding, and appreciation, of what the Foundation’s own team deals with on a daily basis.”

An important part of the visit was to foster an understanding of the critical issues the Foundation addresses. The reality of human-trafficking was brought home with true-life stories of women in the Red Light programme who have been rescued from the sex trade’s dark world of, been accompanied on their individual journeys into wholeness by trained and skilled staff, and equipped with training and skills as they move into new hope-filled futures.

As a community outreach initiative, the day was a resounding success, and it also struck a deep chord on a very human level with the whole Carrick Wealth team. Jandre added: “To know that the sandwiches we made will go to fill the hungry tummies of children who otherwise may have nothing else to sustain them through their school day, and to have had the privilege of cuddling babies who have been abandoned, was a very profound experience.”

Sizamile thanked Carrick Wealth for their very generous donation of items for Domino’s programmes. If you are interested in spending time to get to know what the Foundation does and to be part of the “answer”, please contact Sizamile at hello@domino.org.za. Every effort helps.
