They may well be the smallest members of a household but they have a knack of totally disrupting the family’s routine, sleep habits and budgets. Baby’s advent is welcomed with congratulations, happy family selfies and warm fuzzy feelings all round, but one of the tough realities is that it all comes at a price. The proud new mums and dads willingly accept the broken nights et al, but the cost of kitting out Junior can be very daunting.

A group of ladies who have all dealt with the demands of the early years of motherhood held a very successful Tiny Finds Fair at Grace Church to help families acquire quality pre-loved baby and children’s items at affordable prices. Organiser, Kelly Manson, commented: As a mom, I know how quickly children outgrow clothing and equipment, and how easy it is to overspend on items that are only needed for a short time.” She explained how the fair had given an opportunity to shop sustainably, give pre-loved items a second life and save money on essentials. She went on to say that giving back to the community is also a key part of the mission she and her mom and sister, Karin and Caitlyn Woods, have set themselves and that The Domino Foundation’s Baby Home had been chosen as the fair’s beneficiary because its work caring for vulnerable babies aligns so closely with the heart of Tiny Finds Fair.

Precious Thabethe, the home’s Crisis Mom, said, after receiving the event’s proceeds, “We are so grateful to the organisers of the Tiny Finds fair for partnering with us creating a positive ripple effect to touch the lives of the babies in need we care for.”

Kelly added that the hope is that the Tiny Finds Fair will become a regular event supporting local families, promoting sustainable shopping and making a meaningful difference in the community.
